HD FEST short films
My friend and I attended the HD Fest yesterday and had fun. There were a few short films that I enjoyed. I think before I focus on making feature films, I am going to do five to ten short films to start off with. I have some already written, I just need to shoot them. Here are some of the films we enjoyed.
Hallo Panda Directed by Benjamin Blaine, UK
An unromantic comedy about a man and a talking bear. Mark is an American in London for the culture of drinking. Panda is a Chinese bear, here to mate with a female he can't bare. Trapped and lonely, they become friends. Mark loves Sarah, Sarah only loves moths, and if Panda won't mate, Mark will have to give him a hand...
Bill Directed by John Salceido, US
Synopsis:
A comedy about about why you shouldn't get drunk, get stoned, and have sex dressed in your best friend's clothing.
“Bill” tells the story of Paul and Amelia, a couple who has lost that special spark that keeps a relationship alive. They are taking each other for granted and, except for Paul’s frequent workplace masturbation, their sex life is nonexistent. After seeking the advice of their therapist (Saturday Night Live’s Rachel Dratch), they realize they need to make some changes. In walks Bill, a charming veterinarian who just moved to town and is looking for some new friends. Bill, just by being Bill, brings the spark back to Paul and Amelia’s life together. Things couldn’t be better - until Bill discovers their true fetish...him
When Sally met Frank Directed by Victoria Waghorn, Australia
Synopsis:
Every year willing women succumb by the millions to be sliced + diced, peeled + pulled, syringed + sucked into shape in the pursuit of aesthetic perfection. Cosmetic Surgeons are the living manifestation of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein. The doctor becomes the passive butcher, a production line worker reaping the benefits of fashion hysteria delivering quick fix elixirs of youth. Women actively seek this sanitized Jack the Ripper in an ironic stay of execution from perception of death AKA middle age.
No disaster stories here: what happens when it actually goes right? This film is a satirical love story of women's obsession with the beauty myth and a fun commentary on our society?s increased desire for homogenization of the masses.
An everyday fairytale of horror.
